Security and Privacy
Zambala Gifts limits the information we collect about our customers. We care about our customers' security and privacy. We collect contact and shipping information in order to ship products to them. We do not collect or keep credit card information on this website, nor do we have access to credit card information. Credit card processing is done on a secure site managed by Beanstream.com. We do have an email news list to send out information periodically about new stock and upcoming Zambala Gifts sales events. We do not sell or give this list to any other company or group unless you specified when joining the Zambala Gifts email list that you wished to get notices about Buddhist events in addition to Zambala Gifts events.
Our Privacy Policy is designed to comply with British Columbia Private Sector Privacy Legislation. Its key principles which we have summarized here are:
Principle 1 - Be accountable - Zambala Gifts is responsible for all personal information under its control. Any questions or complaints about our privacy policy should be addressed to Mara Shnay at mara@zambalagifts.com
Principle 2 - Identify the purpose - Zambala Gifts collects customer name, address, email and phone number in order to ship products to our customers. We also collect email addresses for our email newsletter. We only send the email newsletter if it has been requested by the customer.
Principle 3 - Obtain consent - before using personal information for something other than shipping purchases to our customers, we request permission.
Principle 4 - Limit collection - The only information we collect is to be able to ship products to customers, address any difficulties or questions they might have, or email newsletters that have been requested by the customer
Principle 5 - Limit use, disclosure and retention - We use or disclose personal information only for the purpose(s) for which it was collected, unless the individual consents to the new purpose, or the use or disclosure is otherwise authorized by the BC Privacy Act.
Principle 6 - Be accurate - Minimize the possibility of using incorrect or incomplete information when making a decision that affects an individual or when disclosing an individual's information to another organization by making reasonable efforts to ensure that the personal information it collects is accurate and complete.
Principle 7 - Use appropriate safeguards - We safeguard personal information from unauthorized access, collection, use, disclosure, copying, modification or disposal by both individuals outside the organization as well as within.
Principle 8 - Be open - We explain our privacy policies. Questions or complaints can be referred to Mara Shnay, info@zambalagifts.com. An individual can request to know exactly what information is stored about him/her.
Principle 9 - Give individuals access - They can access their personal information, ask how it is used, get a list of any individuals or organizations to whom the information has been disclosed. Also, provide a copy of the information requested or a response that includes reasons for not providing access, subject to the exceptions set out in the Act, within 30 business days unless an extension of time is permitted under the Act.
Principle 10 - Provide recourse - Customers can make complaints to the name listed in Principle 8, as well as make complaints to the Privacy Commissioner (BC residents). Zambala Gifts will investigate any complaints received, and take appropriate measures to correct information handling practices and policies, if required.
